Grace Rawden

Born in Shandong Jinan China

Lives and works in Albany, NY

Taking apart from the past experience growing up in an orphanage, Grace Rawden decides to use that element and her own knowledge to display her installation work. As an multidisciplinary artist, her work is highly conceptualized. Certain idea sparks, then she takes it to expand and reflect upon how she has mirrored herself into. Born with a tumor growing on the right side of her eye, she now relies on one. This is one of her tool to create a language that reflects to the world she sees. On another hand, as being adopted and started new life at age 11 in America, an additional tumor was found on her brain. These experiences she faced has driving her to investigate the unknown. The unpredictable possibilities are limitless. The nature itself feels mysterious. How something being effected leave it to the unknown. This keeps her wondered mind to gather and experiment. Sensing certain materials that attracts to her eye, she looks for that language itself exists before an experimentation start to take place. An unpredictable space leaves room for her to wonder through the materials. A lot of curiosities aids the sparks to her process. Rawden wants her work to trigger the brain for a sense to activate. Either is being institutionalized, cared for, or abused. They are not meant to be know.
